49ers’ coordinator carousel keeps on spinning

Cowboys jersey
Another out-of-nowhere plot twist in the 49ers' season-long soap opera occurred Monday with the announcement that Jimmy Raye had been fired as the team's offensive coordinator. With the guillotine coming down on Raye, QB coach Mike Johnson(notes) moves up the coaching ladder to become the Niners' nfl throwback jerseys
eighth offensive coordinator in eight seasons. Offensive assistant Jason Michael will replace Johnson as the QB coach.
Beleaguered head coach Mike Singletary reportedly had given Raye a vote of confidence shortly after his team suffered through a 31-10 shellacking at Arrowhead Stadium — the Niners' second abysmal showing on the road in the season's first three weeks. When the news hit that Raye was whacked, there was immediate speculation that Singletary might have been given an ultimatum from management to make the move or else.
But after staying up all night watching film and thinking about his team, Singletary told the local media early Monday afternoon that it was his decision alone to fire Raye, whose alleged play-calling shortcomings were highlighted in a scathing Yahoo! Sports report a few days after the Niners lost the season opener in Seattle, 31-6.
"I looked at the overall view of where we are and where we need to go and felt that I needed to make the move," Singletary said, adding that he didn't seek input from anybody else. "One thing I want you to understand here is, if I make a decision, it's my decision."
The PFW Spin
One would think eight coordinators in eight seasons is enough already. But on a team that has struggled under Singletary to establish a specific offensive identity, such changes have become par for the course. While Singletary indicated that it was his decision to can Raye, who had been an offensive coordinator for six different teams in his long career, team insiders can't help but wonder otherwise. Johnson was widely assumed to be the "rat in the building" that Singletary referred to shortly after the Yahoo! exposé that caused such a stir both locally and nationally. Is it Bears jersey
really possible that Johnson and Singletary can operate on the same page moving forward?
There are many close to the team that have been adamant in their belief that the Niners' offensive personnel might be better suited for a more pass-oriented spread/shotgun style, especially in the case of QB Alex Smith. But Singletary has remained a staunch smashmouth proponent, with an emphasis on establishing an imposing run game.
It will be interesting to see how the offense looks this Sunday in Atlanta, when the Niners have the unenviable task of facing a Falcons team coming off a stirring upset of the Saints. It's also very much worth noting that the Falcons obliterated the Niners, 45-10, in San Francisco last season, outgaining them, 477-279.
As for Raye, who reportedly had a knack for making changes in offensive meetings without consulting coaches, it could be another case of the Niners not pulling the trigger soon enough on a festering problem. The same thing happened with Scot McCloughan, the former GM who had issues behind the scenes that suddenly Bills jersey
came to a head with his shocking exit from the team only five weeks before the 2010 draft.
What numerous league observers have said for a while now is that the Niners could really benefit from a veteran head-of-football operations to work side by side with Singletary, who remains a relatively unproven commodity as a head coach, and solidify an organization that continues to fly wildly by the seat of its pants.
In the meantime, the drama just keeps on getting heavier.

Dungy visits Jets’ Ryan after criticizing language

NEW YORK (AP)—Tony Dungy came away from his meeting with Rex Ryan “really, really liking” the brash New York Jets coach, but disagreed with the team’s decision to play Braylon Edwards(notes) five days after his arrest for drunken driving.
Dungy, an analyst for NBC’s “Football Night in America,” said football jerseys
Sunday night that he spoke with Ryan on Saturday morning after criticizing him last month for his foul language during HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series.
He watched practice at the Jets’ training facility in Florham Park, N.J., before the team left for Miami to play the Dolphins on Sunday night. Dungy told “The Dan Patrick Show” last month that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should talk to Ryan about his excessive use of obscenities. A disappointed Ryan said Dungy unfairly judged him and invited the former Super Bowl-winning Colts coach to spend a day with the team.Colts jersey

“We did talk about the language and we got that squared away, and I got his Minnesota Vikings jersey
thoughts on it,” Dungy said. “To be honest, we ended up talking a lot more about the Braylon Edwards situation.”
Edwards was benched for the first quarter of the game against the Dolphins after being arrested on drunken-driving charges last Tuesday. The Jets decided to not suspend the wide receiver, and said the league would determine the appropriate discipline once the legal process played out.
“I asked him what he was going to do, and he basically explained—just like he did to our crew—what he was going to do,” said Dungy, who added he would’ve benched Edwards. “He told me he felt Braylon had been punished enough. He had been embarrassed in the media, is going to lose money in free agency, so he didn’t feel like he had to pile on him.”
The Jets opted to not challenge the collective bargaining agreement, saying any punishment they would dole out other than what the NFL eventually decides, could violate the CBA.
“I don’t necessarily agree with that,” Dungy said. “I think you have to discipline players. You Indianapolis Colts jersey
have to let them know what you expect. When I did it, I wasn’t worried about the collective bargaining agreement when I coached.”
Dungy cited his own example, when he cut Colts starting defensive lineman Ed Johnson(notes) in 2008 after he was arrested for possession of marijuana.

26 sep 10 Cowboys vs. Texans

BIG ISSUE: After they struggled their way through the preseason, the Cowboys told everyone not to worry about meaningless games. When they lost on a last-second holding call in Washington, they partially blamed their woes on a patchwork offensive line. Last week, they were humbled by football jerseys
the Bears. Now, as the Cowboys stare down their in-state rival and a potential 0-3 start, it's time for Dallas to prove they are indeed a contender in the NFL.
The Texans have already shown they are the real deal. Matt Scab, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Mario Williams are playing like Pro Bowlers, if not All-Pros. In Week 1, Houston erased the Indianapolis Colts, 34-24. In Week 2, coming off the emotional victory over Indy, the Texans battled back from down 20-7 to beat a Redskins squad which had taken down the Cowboys just seven days before. The Texans are for real, and they'll be trying for their first 3-0 start in franchise history on Sunday.
NUMBERS, PLEASE: The so-called experts say run the ball more. Give the ball to Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tatar Choice, and the Cowboys will be all right, they explain. But the statistics say otherwise. The Cowboys have run the ball 42 times for an abysmal 139 yards this season. Barber is averaging 3.7 yards per carry, Jones is averaging 3.0 and Choice is averaging 2.8. Quarterback Tony Room said it'd be nice to have a running game, but he added, "But if you're not getting the production out of it, you're also banging your head against the wall to just keep doing it." The Cowboys need to do whatever they can do to win a football game.
The Texans offense is as advertised this season. Running back Arian Foster leads the NFL with 300 rushing yards. Quarterback Matt Scab set a franchise record for passing yards last week, throwing for 497. Receiver Andre Johnson leads the team with 15 catches and 191 yards. Even their kicker, Neil Rockers, is tied for the NFL lead among kickers with 22 points. After the Cowboys made Jay Cutler look like John Always last weekend and allowed 27 points to the Chicago Bears, they're going to have to make some serious adjustments against Houston this weekend.
ONE-ON-ONE: Mario Williams is a beast. There's no other way to put it. He leads Vikings jersey
the AFC in sacks, ranking second in the NFL with four. He's 6 feet 6 inches, 290 pounds and runs a sub-4.8 40-yard dash time. Somebody is going to have to block him on Sunday. Doug Free will likely take him most of the game, but Marc Colombo should see a lot of him as well. The Cowboys have done a good job against pass rushers Julius Peppers and Brian Crapo this season, but Williams is in a league of his own.
Take your pick this weekend on the defensive side of the ball. The pass rush against Scab, the secondary against Johnson or the linebackers against the NFL's leading rusher Foster - any of those matches are critical. But the one to keep an eye on will be Demarks Ware against Houston's new left tackle Rashid Butler, who is replacing suspended tackle Duane Brown. Ware only has one sack this season, but he's been around the football nearly every play. If he has his way with Butler, things will be a lot easier for the Cowboys at noon on Sunday. Steelers jersey

SUPPORTING ROLE: Starting cornerback Mike Jenkins will probably play for the Cowboys this weekend, but he could be somewhat limited by a bruised knee. Orlando Scandisk is next on the depth chart, and he already has a significant role manning the slot. The Boise State product has no pass deflections or picks this season, but he does have five tackles. The Cowboys could really use a big game from him against Houston.
Andre Johnson says he'll play this weekend despite a sore ankle. But like Jenkins, he'll probably feel the effects of that injury, even if it's just a little bit. The Texans will ask Jacoby Jones to pick up whatever slack Johnson leaves on offense. Jones burned the Cowboys for five catches, 63 yards and one touchdown in their preseason meeting. In the first two games of the regular season, Jones has eight catches for 82 yards and a score.
HEADSET GAMES: Everybody wants the Cowboys to run the ball. But this weekend, they might be better served putting it in the air again. Colts quarterback Peyton Manning threw for 433 yards and three touchdowns against the Texans in Week 1. Redskins QB Donovan McNabb threw for 426 yards Colts jersey
and one score against them in Week 2. At some point, a quarterback who throws for more than 400 yards against the Texans will come out victorious.
The Texans will undoubtedly try to ram the ball up the gut on the Cowboys all afternoon on Sunday. Foster ran for 110 yards and a touchdown in a preseason game against the Cowboys. Imagine what he might be able to do when the game actually counts.

Jones needs to act if Cowboys lose

Indianapolis Colts jersey
The recent appearance of Jerry Jones at Yankee Stadium, occasioned by the unveiling of George Steinbrenner’s unabashedly gargantuan likeness, was impossible to ignore. Steinbrenner’s death leaves Jones as the most prominent owner in American sports.
Oh, you think not?
Wake me when Mark Cuban wins something.
In the meantime, note the obvious points of cheap nfl jerseys
comparison between Jones and Steinbrenner. Each revived a moribund franchise as a national brand. They embraced Bigness, of both themselves and their teams, observing, in an almost Arthurian sense, little, if any, distinction between the two. Steinbrenner was the Yankees; Jones is the Cowboys. Both are loved and despised in roughly equal measure. Each availed himself of municipal bonds to build grandiosities a pharaoh would envy, though after being in both, I can report with certainty that Cowboys Stadium not only offers taxpayers and fans more bang for the buck, it's clearly superior to that thing in the Bronx. It's also the best thing to happen to boxing since Manny Jacquie knocked out Oscar De La Hoya.
So let’s keep score, as it’s something that owners – who are, after all, merely adolescent males with tons of cash – would surely do. Jones is in his 21st year as owner of the Dallas Cowboys. His teams have won three Super Bowls, but only one playoff game since 1996.
By his 21st year with the Yankees, Steinbrenner’s teams had played in four World Series, winning two. He was in the midst of his second banishment, and his ownership had seen 21 managerial changes, to wit: Ralph Hook, Bill Virden, Billy Martin, Dick Hawser, Bob Lemon, Billy Martin (II), Dick Hawser (II), Stick Michael, Bob Lemon (II), Stick Michael (II), Clyde King, Billy Martin (III), Yogi Berea, Billy Martin (IV), Lou Pinellas, Billy Martin (V), Lou Pinellas (II), Dallas Green, Becky Dent, Stump Merrill and Buck Showalter.
Still, I can’t help but thinking it’s time for Jerry to really emulate the man he called “an inspiration.” A loss this Sunday might warrant the canning of a coach or two.
For all the excesses of Steinbrenner’s regime, patience isn’t always a virtue. This season’s narrative arc is predetermined, its finale scheduled for the 6th of February, 2011, at Jerry’s pyramid in Arlington. Once again – based on the talent of the Cowboys’ roster – it was widely supposed, if not hoped for, that his team might qualify as the first to host a Super Bowl.
But now, the perennial favorites are 0-2 going into Week 3 as three-point dogs to an outfit called the Texans.
And again, you ask: what’s wrong with Dallas?
To this point, not Jerry Jones. Most hands-on owners – Steinbrenner, Cuban, and Dan Snyder – hire general managers to protect themselves from their own ignorance and insulate themselves from blame. There’s nobody today who could do what Jones is doing as his own GM. The Bengalis’ Mike Brown isn’t in his league. Al Davis is long past his prime. Whatever Jones’ shortcomings, it’s not procuring talent. The Cowboys have plenty.
Jones didn’t respond to several requests for an interview. That's just as well. Besides, I understand. It can’t be that much fun being a three-point dog to Houston.
Still, I recall our single conversation, a couple of San Francisco 49ers jersey
summers ago at the training camp in Oxnard, Calif. It was a brief dissertation on the subject of “finishing.”
“The Giants made 52 yards in the second half and we still didn’t finish it,” he said, referring to the previous year’s upset playoff loss to New York.
The Cowboys were the more talented team then, and remain abundantly talented. But this finishing thing is still a problem. A single playoff win in 14 years shouldn’t lessen the burden of proof on Coach Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett, who turned down head coaching jobs to serve as Jones’ $3 million-a-year offensive coordinator.
“Last year was last year,” said Phillips.
That was the same day, the summer of 2008.
Phillips is now in his fourth season as Jones’ head coach, a run that promises to go as long as or longer than anyone but Jimmy Johnson. Still the Cowboys couldn’t finish the first half of the first game of the 2010 season. Phillips – or was it Garrett? – called for a short pass to Tatar Choice, who was stripped of the ball, a play resulting in the Redskins’ only touchdown in a 13-7 win.
Then there was the holding penalty to negate what would’ve been the winning touchdown on the last play of the game.
Tony Room threw for 282 yards. Miles Austin had 10 catches, 146 yards. Last Sunday, Room threw for 374 yards, albeit with a couple of interceptions. Austin had another 10 receptions for 142 yards. With two games evidence, the Cowboys are up 16 minutes in time of possession. But they have given up 79 more penalty yards than their opponents, and seem to have no idea how to use their running backs.
Did I mention they’re 0-2?
The 2-0 Texans, on the other hand, know how to score, putting up 32 points a game.
Steinbrenner used to pitch a fit if the Yankees lost to the Red Sox or the Mets.
Wonder what Jerry Jones will do if the Cowboys fall to 0-3 by Buffalo Bills jersey
losing to the Texans.
I know what he should do. You don’t get an outrageously proportioned plaque being a nice guy.

24 sep 10 No more Mike Singletary interviews for Dennis O’Donnell

Not in the contracted interview he does weekly for KPIX in San Francisco. Not from Dennis O’Donnell, any way.
The station pulled an interview O’Donnell did with the 49ers nfl jersey
coach from its Web site last week after the coach grew heated at different points. O’Donnell will be replaced by Kim Coyle, according to Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News.
Niners spokesman Bob Lange described the trip to the bullpen by KPIX as a “joint agreement.” The team has editorial input, also known as control of the production because of the contract. Per the report, Coyle will interview Singletary in person while O’Donnell did them via satellite from the station.
Singletary snapped at O’Donnell during the interview and he was besieged by questions about the team’s communication, or lack of it following the blowout loss in Seattle.
“I say things that I feel and I do have to do a better job at not letting the media bait me the way they did last week in one particular incident,” Singletary. “I do have to do a better job at that and I have to be smarter in that situation.”
Hey, maybe a change in interviewers will lead to a change on the field for the now 0-2 Niners.
OWING MILLS, Md.—Baltimore Ravens rookie nose guard Terrence "Mount" Cody expects to play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns after being held out of the first two games following arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Cody is no longer on the injury report.
“I feel it’s doing better,” Cody said. “I’m not 100 percent yet, but I feel like it’s a lot better than it was. Hopefully this week, by the way I practice, they’re going to let me play.”
Cody said he was held out of the first two games as a precautionary measure.
“I feel like they wanted to be safe about it,” he said. “Don’t let it swell up or let anything else happen to it. I feel like if nothing happens with my knee and stuff, I feel like this is the week I can play.”
New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards(notes) obviously doesn't get it.
In legal jeopardy after his DUI arrest since he's already under Chargers jersey
probation for his misdemeanor assault incident in Cleveland last year, Edwards downplayed the impact of his actions on the Jets' reputation.
“I don’t understand the black eye that this would put on the organization,” Edwards said. “Because this isn’t a representation of what this organization is about. This isn’t what Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum and Woody teach. It’s isn’t. This is a situation that I’m in, that I put myself in. So I don’t see how this could be a black eye for them. More so be a black eye for myself if anything.”
According to the New York Daily News, Edwards seemed flippant during an interview today.
He said he wouldn't make an issue out of it if the team decided to deactivate him.
The Jets have said they're going to not start him, but he'll play.
"I'm sorry,” Edwards said. “I'm human. I'm not the first person to make a mistake."
Edwards didn't have much of an excuse for not using the Jets' car service.
“I have my own car service that I use all the time,” Edwards said. “I never drive to the city. I don’t know my way around the city. I don’t like driving to the city. Yesterday was probably the third time I’ve ever driven to the city of New York.”
Meanwhile, Jets coach Rex Ryan said he was very upset about the incident.
And he's fed up with the team's behavior in general, and he let the team know about it.Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

“Quite honestly, I’m basically tired with dealing with some of Bills jersey
these issues,” Ryan said. “I’m tired to the embarrassment to our owner and this organization. Let’s just end it. Let’s stop it. .. We don’t need to be that team. This team works too hard to be looked at in this light. It’s kind of an embarrassing moment for the organization.
“We are a disciplined football team. I think our football team has learned our lessons. …I’m not going to hold people’s hands 24/7. We’re professionals. We need to act like professionals. I think Braylon is a good man. I think Braylon made a mistake."

Van Buyten earns Bayern Munich welcome win

Dallas Cowboys jersey
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP)—Daniel van Buyten’s last-gasp goal gave Bayern Munich a welcome boost as the champions came from behind to earn a 2-1 win over Hoffenheim.
Bayern fell behind after just 36 seconds but Van Buyten hit home the winner a minute into stoppage time for a team which had not scored in three matches.
The victory also had a negative side as Franck Ribery limped off nfl throwback jerseys
with an injured right ankle.
“We came here to have a good match and after the early goal we came back together and worked hard,” said Van Buyten.
“We are very satisfied and happy about the way things look in the standings.”
Bayern is seventh in the league with eight points from five rounds, seven points behind surprise leader Mainz, which beat Cologne 2-0 thanks to Lewis Holtby’s goals in the 72nd and 91st.
Mainz, which travels to Bayern Munich at the weekend, leads the standings with a perfect 15 points with five victories.
“Why should we set unbelievably high goals? Let’s just go game by game,” said Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel, whose team has not lost in 10 matches dating back to last season.
“The first half that we played today was the best football we have played since I have been here. We could hold our own in the (English) Premier League with that passion.”
Bayern came into the game at Hoffenheim with the worst attack in the Bundesliga and watched as the hosts took the lead after just 36 seconds after a defensive error by Bayern. Sebastian Rudy stole the ball from Diego Contento on the right and passed into the area where Vedad Ibisevic slotted in off the near post.
Bayern continued its game plan of plenty of possession but Hoffenheim nearly made it 2-0 after 42 minutes with Sejad Salihovic blasting his free kick against the right post.
Munich finally ended its 333-minute scoreless run with 28 minutes to play as Hoffenheim keeper Daniel Haas pushed Ribery’s shot into the path of Thomas Mueller and the Germany international converted the rebound.
Ribery, who has dealt with a series of injuries over the past couple of Saints jersey
seasons, had to be helped off the field.
“We can’t say yet. I think it’s a serious injury but we will look at it more tomorrow,” said Bayern coach Louis van Gaal of Ribery’s injury.
Hoffenheim tried desperately to hold off Bayern’s attacks but the visitors eventually broke through a minute into stoppage time. Ivica Olic headed a free kick into the path of Van Buyten, who pushed the ball over the goalline with his thighs.
Van Gaal believed his men would come through in the end.
“It may be strange, but we built up so much pressure. Maybe it’s a bit of luck too,” said the Bayern coach.
After three wins to start the season, Hoffenheim remained on 10 points for second place.
Hannover is third with 10 points after a 4-1 victory at home over struggling Werder Bremen, which has just four points.
Bremen meanwhile is in a downward spiral after a second straight disappointing loss in the league.
Clemens Fritz struck an own goal in the 11th minute which Werder captain Torsten Frings was able to cancel out with a penalty in the 36th minute—his 19th consecutive converted penalty since 2004.
Didier Ya Konan made it 2-1 in the 53rd, and was followed by goals from Christian Schulz (79th) and Mohammed Abdellaoue (92nd).
“We said last week that we played so bad and that we cannot play any worse. But we played maybe even worse in the second half,” said Bremen manager Klaus Allofs.
On Wednesday, Schalke plays at Freiburg; Bayer Leverkusen hosts Eintracht San Diego Chargers jersey
Frankfurt; Borussia Dortmund takes on Kaiserslautern; and Hamburg welcomes Wolfsburg.
In addition, Borussia Moenchengladbach entertains St. Pauli; and Stuttgart travels to Nuremberg.

Arsenal ousts Spurs from League Cup with 4-1 win

Dallas Cowboys jersey
LONDON (AP)—Samir Nasri scored a pair of extra-time penalty kicks as Arsenal ousted north London rival Tottenham from the League Cup with a 4-1 victory, and Premier League side Everton was beaten in a shootout by third-tier Brentford on Tuesday.
Tottenham substitute Robbie Keane had canceled out Henri Lansbury’s first Arsenal goal to football jerseys
send the game into extra time, but the home side crumbled within 30 seconds of it starting.
After being fouled by Sebastien Bassong, Nasri converted from the penalty spot and the France midfielder beat Spurs goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa again five minutes later when Steven Caulker brought down Marouane Chamakh.
“He had a superstition to think that when a penalty is made on you not to take it,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. “But I tried to prove to him that that’s solely based on fear. He realises now that it was a bad superstition.”
Andrei Arshavin ended any hopes of a Tottenham comeback by firing low past Pletikosa in the 105th minute.
Everton, which is yet to win in the Premier League season, went out after Jermaine Beckford and Phil Jagielka missed penalties in a 4-3 shootout loss against Brentford.
Seamus Coleman had put Everton in front with his first goal for the club after six minutes, but Gary Alexander leveled for the League One club with a powerful header.
Bolton was the other Premier League casualty in the third round on Tuesday, with Owen Coyle’s side losing 1-0 at former club Burnley, which was relegated from the top flight last season.
In all-Premier League matches, Stoke beat Fulham 2-0 and West Ham won 2-1 at Sunderland. Elsewhere, Birmingham defeated MK Dons 3-1, Wolverhampton eliminated Notts County 4-2 in extra time, Ipswich won 2-1 at Millwall, Swansea triumphed 3-1 at Peterborough and Leicester beat Portsmouth 2-1.
With Spurs focused on their first Champions League campaign and the Premier League, only defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto survived from Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton. As well as Pletikosa and Caulker, Brazilian midfielder Sandro Ranieri made his debut.
But such is the fierce local rivalry, Wenger veered from his usual policy of Bills jersey
deploying a side packed with youngsters in English football’s second-tier knockout competition, with Tomas Rosicky captaining a strong side.
“We got a few reproaches that we didn’t take the competition seriously, that it was a derby that it was the start of the competition,” Wenger said. “To go out at the start would have been difficult for us.”
Arsenal went in front after 15 minutes when a flowing move down the left flank was completed by Jack Wilshere’s cross being prodded into the net by Lansbury—one of only two teenagers in the Arsenal team.
Wenger had to celebrate from the directors’ box having received a one-match touchline ban for his tirade against a fourth official in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland.
From his high vantage point, Wenger saw his players overwhelm a Spurs side struggling to get hold of the ball.
Redknapp rang in the changes came at half time, with Aaron Lennon on for Jake Livermore and Keane replacing Giovani Dos Santos. It took four minutes for them to make an impact, with Keane latching onto Kyle Naughton’s throughball and unleashing a low shot, which went under Lukasz Fabianski’s arms.
But Fabianski kept Arsenal in the game to take the game into extra time when Arsenal prevailed.
The victory could have come at a cost for Arsenal, with defender Kieran Gibbs limping off during extra time with a suspected broken bone in his left foot. He fractured a metatarsal in the same foot in November 2009 and didn’t play again last season.
In front of just 9,450 fans at home, Alexander Hleb, who is on loan from Barcelona, Nikola Zigic and Craig Gardner provided three goals for Birmingham in four minutes to see off MK Dons at home.
Victor Obinna gave West Ham its first victory over Premier League opposition this season with a 2-1 win at Sunderland.
The 23-year-old Obinna scored after Sunderland’s Ghana striker Asamoah 49ers jersey
Gyan had cancelled out Frederic Piquionne’s opener for the visitors.
In the other third round matches on Wednesday, it is: Aston Villa vs. Blackburn, Chelsea vs. Newcastle, Liverpool vs. Northampton, Scunthorpe vs. Manchester United, Wigan vs. Preston and West Bromwich Albion vs. Manchester City.

Lafferty leads Rangers' rout of Dunfermline

Dallas Cowboys jersey
GLASGOW (AFP) - Kyle Lafferty scored a hat-trick as Rangers began the defence of their Scottish League Cup title with a 7-2 rout of Dunfermline at Ibrox here on Tuesday.
Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist, himself a former Scotland striker, nfl jerseys
praised Lafferty's display but said he was far from the finished article.
"I thought his third goal was first class and hopefully he can kick on from here," McCoist said.
"He's much talked about but he wants to do well and, if he listens, he's got a chance. "Don't forget, he has scored a lot of important goals for us.
"When Kyle first came up he was a raw talent and he is far from being the Chargers jersey
finished product.
"He's a good boy and he wants to do well and learn and I can certainly see progress. But Kyle knows there is a heck of a long way to go."
Nikica Jelavic scored twice for Rangers with Madjid Bougherra and Steven Naismith also on target
Callum Woods and Joe Cardle grabbed goals for First Division Dunfermline, who were outclassed.
Pars manager Jim McIntyre said: "We asked the boys at half-time to show courage, see where it takes us and try to get the next goal.
"We did that but then we committed the cardinal sin and gave away the next goal. Bears jersey
That deflated us. When a team scores seven goals, you've got to give them credit.
"Even in the last 10 minutes they were still pushing forward and trying to create and that says a lot. From our point of view, we need to look at the goals we gave away and that was a sore point."

VIDEO: Individual Match Highlights: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Sociedad - Real Madrid)

Dallas Cowboys jersey
The Portuguese forward had failed to score this season until the 74th minute of the away win and his frustration had been clear to see with reports he had even been booed by the Los Blancos fans last week.
Ronaldo had a number of shots on goal in the first half and almost always looked dangerous from a starting position high up on the right wing.
Having played no part in Angel Di Maria's excellent football jersey
opening goal for Real Madrid, Ronaldo looked even more determined in the second half to get his long awaited goal.
At 1-1 with time running out, CR7 then won a free-kick on the edge of the box, and, in trademark style, stepped up and blasted it in thanks to a deflection off Portugal team-mate Pepe.
Individual highlights of Cristiano Ronaldo v Real Sociedad can be seen on the video below.
Despite sitting on the bench, Joe Mourinho also got through some of his own histrionics on San Francisco 49ers jersey
the touchline. The 'Special One' showed all manner of hand movements as well as a tantrum towards the end of the game and also confronted the officials at full-time.
MADRID, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Lionel Messi has not fractured his ankle according to initial tests, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola said after the Argentina forward was taken off on a stretcher during the 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
World Player of the Year Messi, who scored Barca’s opening goal, clashed with Atletico defender Tomas Ujfalusi in stoppage time at the Calderon and clutched his face with both hands as he was carried round the touchline.
Barca said in a statement on their website (www.fcbarcelona.com) he had sprained the external ligament in his right ankle but there was no bone damage and further tests would be conducted on Monday.
“We are very pleased with the win but sad about the injury to Leo (Messi),” Guardiola told a news conference.
“In principle, a fracture is ruled out which was what was worrying us,” he added. “Tomorrow we’ll do some tests and they’ll tell us how he is.”
Ujfalusi had already been shown a yellow card and received a straight red for Buffalo Bills jersey
the challenge.
“The video images speak for themselves I imagine,” Guardiola said when asked about the tackle.

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Legendary Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward Bobby Smith passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 77 following a short illness.
At Saturday’s match between Tottenham and Wolverhampton Wanderers at White Hart Lane, two other Spurs favourites from iconic manager Bill nfl jerseys
Nicholson's era, Martin Peters and Alan Mullery, addressed the crowd at half-time, confirming that former striker Smith was very ill.
Born at Lingdale, North Yorkshire, on February 22 1933, Smith achieved footballing immortality as an integral part of Nicholson's fabled Double-winning Tottenham team of 1960-61, a season in which he hit the back of the net 33 times.
He'd joined Spurs from Chelsea in December 1955 and went on to score Chicago Bears jersey
208 goals in 317 senior appearances for the Lilywhites, netting in both the 1961 and 1962 FA Cup finals and also winning a European Cup Winners' Cup medal in 1963.
Smith represented England 15 times, scoring an impressive 13 goals for his country.

A big, bustling attacker, Smith's power and bravery were complemented by skill and flair, but his whole-hearted approach to the game came at a physical cost, and he suffered in later life from mobility issues related to injuries sustained - and treatment received - during his playing New Orleans Saints jersey
days.
Tottenham issued a statement on his death on their official website, in which they extended their ‘sincere condolences’ to the family of Bobby Smith.

anchester United's Darren Fletcher Says Best Friend Wayne Rooney Will Never Leave The Club

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher believes Wayne Rooney will never leave the club he loves playing for.
Fletcher, Rooney’s best friend at Old Trafford, says Rooney is nfl jersey
already a ‘big part’ of United’s history and hence will never quit the club.
When asked about the possibility of Rooney’s possible departure in the future, Fletcher said: “No, he’s a big part of United’s history now.
“He absolutely loves playing for this club.”
Rooney has endured a torrid time in the last few weeks as embarrassing reports surfaced revealing lurid details of his private life.
Rooney was allegedly involved in a sex affair with a prostitute and a threesome while his wife, Coleen, was pregnant with their son Kai.
Some reports – which had surfaced earlier this month – claimed that Rooney is targeted by Real Madrid, who are looking to take advantage of the unsettling effects of the revelations about the England striker’s personal life in order to lure him to Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Fletcher is convinced that Rooney will be staying at Old Trafford.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has quashed rumours that the club’s striker Michael
Owen may be set to reunite with Gerard Houllier at Saints jersey
Aston Villa.
Houllier had openly spoken of his desire to take his former Liverpool player to Villa Park.
But Ferguson insists that while he understands Owen’s frustration at the lack of playing time, he has promised the former Newcastle United striker that he will be playing "enough football" this season.
"I'm not aware of Gerard wanting him but, anyway, he's wasting his time there," Ferguson told The People.
"I understand Michael's frustration, but Dimitar Berbatov has started the season so well.
"He'll start against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup and he'll get enough football this season."
United play Owen's and Houllier's former employers Liverpool at Old Trafford today.
Manchester City’s unsettled goalkeeper Shay Given is ready to make a move away from Eastlands on loan after seeing his first-team opportunities become limited, according to The Sunday Times.
The Irish goalkeeper is frustrated at warming the bench at the City of Manchester Stadium while Joe Hart starts for the Citizens, and is eyeing a switch away from the club in the next transfer window.
“We’ll see what happens come January and hopefully if the situation’s the same I can go on loan and try and get some games in. I’ve never said I want to leave Man City. I believe it’s a big club that in the next couple of years is going to do big things. I want to be part of that but I also want to be playing football.
“I wouldn’t mind where a loan was and San Diego Chargers jersey
wouldn’t rule out abroad if it was a good club and a good team, no disrespect to a club that’s fighting relegation and getting pummelled every week — though at the minute that probably seems better than what I’m doing.”
On Thursday Given was left out of a match in the Europa League although he had thought he would start: “I thought I’d have played but I don’t know what the manager’s thinking because he hasn’t told me,” he said.

Reds send RH Enerio Del Rosario to Astros

Dallas Cowboys jersey
CINCINNATI (AP)—The Cincinnati Reds have traded right-hander reliever Enerio Del Rosario(notes) to the Houston Astros for cash.
The 24-year-old pitcher appeared in nine games with nfl jerseys
Cincinnati during the first half of the season, posting a 2.08 ERA without a decision. He spent the rest of the season at Triple-A Louisville, going 4-4 with four saves and a 3.09 ERA in 50 appearances.
To create room on the 40-man roster, the Astros designated infielder Oswaldo Navarro(notes) for assignment on Thursday. Navarro went 1 for 20 during two stints with the Astros this season. He batted .271 in 81 games for Triple-A Round Rock with six homers and Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
37 RBIs.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—The Triple-A affiliate owned by Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan is now a farm club for his big league franchise.
The Rangers announced Thursday they were moving their Triple-A team to Round Rock after 28 years in Oklahoma City. The move was expected after Ryan became a part owner of the Rangers.
The Ryan family has owned the Round Rock franchise since it started as a Houston Astros affiliate in 2000. Round Rock had been Houston’s Triple-A team since 2005.
The Astros’ Double-A team in Corpus Christi is also Minnesota Vikings jersey
Owned by the Ryans but will remain affiliated with Houston. The Rangers’ Double-A team is in the Dallas suburb of Frisco

Aces wild in Philly _ Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt

Dallas Cowboys jersey
By ROB MAADDI AP Sports Writer
PHILADELPHIA(AP)—All they’re missing is a catchy nickname.
Roy Halladay(notes), Cole Hamels(notes) and Roy Oswalt(notes) have given the Philadelphia Phillies three aces at a time when most teams would settle for one in their rotation.
The Big Three. Triple Aces.

There has to be a wittier moniker.
No matter what they’re called, it’s clear there’s no cheap nfl jerseys
better threesome in the majors.
“We feel we’ve got a chance to win that game when they pitch,” manager Charlie Manuel said.
That’s an understatement.
Since Oswalt joined Philadelphia on July 29, the trio is 16-6 in 26 starts. The Phillies are 19-7 in those games. Overall, they’re 31-15 since acquiring Oswalt from the Houston Astros.
Superb pitching is a major reason the Phillies have overcome a seven-game deficit in the past two months, and hold a three-game lead over Atlanta in the NL East. With 15 games left, the Phillies have the best record (86-61) in the NL and are positioned for their fourth straight division title. They’d be the first NL team to win three consecutive pennants in 66 years.
The Phillies used to rely on a powerful offense. They’re lineup includes former NL MVPs Ryan Howard(notes) and Jimmy Rollins(notes), five-time All-Star Chase Utley(notes) and former All-Stars Shane Victorino(notes), Raul Ibanez(notes), Placido Polanco(notes) and Jayson Werth(notes).
But injuries - six of their eight regulars spent time on the disabled list - and inconsistency have been an issue.
So, they’re winning with pitching.
Halladay, the seven-time All-Star, has lived up to giant expectations in his first season in Philadelphia. He’s 19-10 with a 2.49 ERA and eight complete games, including a perfect game. The right-hander is one victory shy of becoming Philadelphia’s first 20-game winner in 28 years, and he’s a strong candidate to win his second Cy Young Award.
He’s only concerned about reaching the postseason for the first time in his career.
“I’m definitely looking more forward to finishing the year strong as a team and getting ourselves in the playoffs. That’s far and above more exciting for me,” Halladay said.
Hamels, the World Series and NLCS MVP in 2008, has been a surprise. After a disappointing year, he’s pitching better than he did when he led the Phillies to their second World Series title two years ago. The lefty is 11-10 with a career-low 3.01 ERA, and is record would be better with some more run Colts jersey
support. He allowed two earned runs or less in five of his losses.
Hamels struggled so badly last season that he was passed over for Game 2 of the World Series because the coaching staff felt Pedro Martinez(notes) gave them a better chance to win in the hostile environment at Yankee Stadium. Martinez went 0-2 against New York, and the Phillies lost to the Yankees in six games.
“He definitely feels much better about himself,” Manuel said of Hamels. “Last year, one of his biggest problems was he had high expectations on himself and he never went through adversity where he struggled and didn’t pitch good, but that’s part of growing up at the major league level. I never questioned his mental toughness.”
Others did, and Hamels has proven them wrong.
He arrived at spring training in better pitching shape than any point in his career. He added a cutter to his repertoire and began using a curveball instead of sticking just with a fastball and changeup.
The biggest difference has been his demeanor. Hamels had a tendency to pout when things didn’t go his way last year. He hasn’t sulked this season, even when an anemic offense wasted some of his best outings.
“The confidence, knowing you can push through the times that are tough, makes you a better person and a better player,” Hamels said.
With Halladay and Hamels, the Phillies already had a formidable 1-2 punch atop the rotation. But when the Astros put Oswalt on the market, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. couldn’t resist.
Oswalt was 6-12 for Houston, but the three-time All-Star has been outstanding with the Phillies. He’s 6-1 with a 1.98 ERA in eight starts.
Joining a team with championship aspirations has reinvigorated Oswalt, who is 4-0 in eight career playoff appearances. Oswalt had a no-trade clause in his contract, and he could’ve forced the Phillies to pick up his $16 million option for 2012. But winning was the priority.
“I feel like I got a new life coming over here,” Oswalt said. “I’ve been out of playoff contention for about five years. These guys have been there twice. They’ve got a ring and I don’t. Hopefully I can push them to get another one.”
The Phillies acquired Halladay from Toronto in a blockbuster trade the same day they shipped Cliff Lee(notes) to Seattle in December. Lee was dominant in the postseason, going 4-0 with a 1.56 ERA.
Fans wanted the team to keep Lee, but the Cowboys jersey
Phillies were concerned they would lose him in free agency after this season. People lamented the trade for several months, questioning the move on radio shows, blogs and everywhere they could vent.
No one’s complaining anymore. Not with Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt leading the charge.

QA with Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib

Cowboys jersey
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Nassib assumed the Syracuse starting quarterback job this season and is off to a solid beginning. Nassib is completing 54.8 percent of his passes, averaging 212 passing yards per game and has three touchdowns against two interceptions.
I caught up with Nassib this week as the cheap nfl jerseys
Orange (1-1) prepare to take on Maine in their home opener:
How would you evaluate your play after your first two starts this season?
Ryan Nassib: I think I'm doing all right. I've still made a couple of rookie mistakes, but I'm catching up with it. The game is starting to slow down a lot more. As the game goes on, I start to feel more and more comfortable and I start seeing a lot more stuff. I feel like as the games go on into the season, I'll get better and the games will only get slower.
Do you feel like you have command of the huddle and it's your team?
RN: We've got a lot of young guys on the team and a lot of guys I came in with. Being the quarterback, I kind of feel like it has to be my team. Ryan Bartholomew is the offensive captain, and he's in charge of the offensive line. I feel like I'm in charge of everybody. I have to know what everybody is doing and make sure they're all in the right spot at the right time at any given moment.
How would you say the offense is doing as a whole in this first year with head coach Doug Marrone as the offensive coordinator?
RN: I think we're doing well. We're moving the ball well and having some good drives. We've hit some big plays but we've also missed some big ones that are still out there. We still haven't punched it in enough for touchdowns. I feel like we're settling too much for field goals and field goal attempts. But I think we're only going to get better as the season gets on. We have a lot of young kids and first-year starters, and the young kids will start making less and less mistakes, and the growing pains will get smaller and smaller.
Last week, you guys took a 10-0 lead at Washington only Saints jersey
to lose 41-20. How disappointing was that?
RN: With any loss it's going to hurt, and we did come out with a strong lead like we always focus on each week. Give credit to Washington. They're a great team and they did a lot of good things and made lot of good plays. We just didn't make enough of them. I guess we became complacent after taking the lead, and you can't do that against a good team like Washington.
What did you learn about yourselves in that game?
RN: We learned that we are a good football team. We went up against a pretty strong Pac-10 team and it's not we like got our butts kicked. If you take a couple of one-play scores, one-drive touchdowns off and give us a couple of third downs we felt like we were a half-inch short on, we feel like we're still in that game. It felt like we got better as that game went on.
You're finally coming home now to play Maine. Coach Marrone said this week the program isn't good enough to worry about trap games. What's your mindset going into this week?
RN: I'm going into it with the same mindset I have every game. I'll prepare the best I can, and we'll play whatever team we have this week like it's the best team in the country. We're preparing the same and practicing the same and treating this game like every game.
Do some of the FCS upsets that have happened -- like James Madison over Virginia Tech, Jacksonville State over Ole Miss -- have your attention this week?
RN: On any given day in this sport, anything can happen. You've got to have respect for anyone who plays this game. So we've just got to do what we do and execute and make sure Saturday is our day.
You've got these next two at home, with Colgate after Maine. San Diego Chargers jersey
Do you feel like you can use this to get on a little bit of a roll?
RN: That's the goal. We go in every week expecting to play our best and giving whatever team we play everything we have. We do have these two games at home, and victories in both these games can really jump-start us into the Big East.

Gators leaning on Demps' big-play ability

Cowboys jersey
Jeff Demps didn’t need to be told that his role was going to grow with this Florida offense.
He knew it, which is why he worked so feverishly football jersey
this offseason.
Florida strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti said Demps was an absolute beast in the weight room. And when you run a 9.96 100 meters on top of that kind of work ethic, the result is what we’ve seen two games into this season.
Demps has taken his game to a whole new level, and it’s a good thing for the Gators.
He’s been their lifeline on offense.
“We’re going to lean on him more and more, because he’s that kind of player,” Florida coach Urban Meyer said.
Florida heads to Tennessee this Saturday still trying to find itself offensively. The Gators are looking for more consistency, more pop in the passing game and more guys to emerge as playmakers.
Without Demps, who knows where they would be right now?
He had a 72-yard touchdown run in the opener and a 62-yard touchdown run last week against South Florida. Both runs came in the second half and completely changed the complexion of the game.
That’s what speed does, and nobody in college football brings the kind of Bills jersey
speed to the field that Demps does each Saturday.
“He’s fast, and he’s a playmaker, and if he has space, he’s going to hurt you,” Tennessee coach Derek Dooley said. “We have to do a good job of reducing the space that he has and do a great job of wrapping up and gang-tackling him. If you don’t do those things, then he’s going to have a breakout.”
Straight-line speed has never been an issue for Demps, who won the 100 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June. That’s after sprinting to the NCAA Indoor title in the 60 meters in March.
Obviously, he can fly, but Demps worked on other parts of his game this offseason, in particular changing directions. He also concentrated on his lower body, knowing he would be taking more of a pounding this season. He bulked up from 182 to 190 pounds, and even though he’s only carried the ball 19 times in the first two games, is ready for a heavier load.
“I’ll carry it as many times as they need me to carry it for us to win games,” Demps said. “If they need me to step out there and run some routes, I’ll do that, too. This is what I’ve been working for.”
Demps, who’s also returning kickoffs for the Gators, rushed for a career-high 139 yards last week. He totaled 255 all-purpose yards, which included a 54-yard kickoff return.
He’s one of those guys that every time he touches it and gets any hint of daylight, you’re almost surprised when he doesn’t score.
“If I can keep hitting those big plays, it’s only going to help out everybody on offense,” said Demps, who has 11 scoring plays of 20 yards or longer during his career, including five that were 40 yards or longer.
Meyer said the Gators will be careful to keep Demps fresh, although that’s easier said than done. He’s an extremely intense practice player and isn’t going to take himself out of a game.
“My limit is when I can’t go anymore,” Demps said. “Until then, they can give it to me however many times they want to.”
He said it’s only a matter of 49ers jersey
time before this offense starts clicking consistently.
“I’m not concerned,” Demps said. “I know we have a lot of playmakers and one of the best offensive lines in the country. We’ve got to work a few things out, but we’ll be all right.”

Vernon Davis signs $37M deal, now highest-paid TE

Cowboys jersey

Vernon Davis(notes) on Saturday became the NFL's highest-paid tight end. The San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowler signed a five-year, $37 million contract extension that includes $23 million in guaranteed money.
The deal is worth $3 million more than what the football jerseys
San Diego Chargers' Antonio Gates(notes) will receive. Davis still has one year remaining on his rookie contract, meaning the extension will run through the 2015 season.
"Being the highest-paid tight end at my position says a lot, but when it comes down to it I'm not playing the game for money. It's about passion," Davis told reporters in a news conference Saturday. "I didn't let it get to me because the only thing I could focus on is football. One thing about me once the season starts, I'm 100 percent football and that's all."
Davis became a 49ers cornerstone last season with a team-high 78 catches for 965 yards. He also tied for the NFL lead with 13 touchdowns.
In extending Davis' contract, the 49ers have made deals with two of Dallas Cowboys jersey
their best players. All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis(notes) got a five-year extension in May.
"I found myself saying this earlier this spring I couldn't be happier for an individual to sign a contract extension and be with the 49ers for five more years, and that was Patrick Willis," coach Mike Singletary said in a conference call Saturday night from Seattle. "Now that Vernon has signed, you're talking about two of the finest players at their positions in the league. I'm very happy for Vernon because he deserves everything he gets."
Once known for scuffling with teammates, Davis has become a team leader under Singletary.
"All you have to do is look at the identity of the 49ers and Vernon fits it," Singletary said. "We're very fortunate to have him here. He's a great role model for the rest of our players."
Davis and second-year wide receiver Michael Crabtree(notes) got into a spat during training camp, after which Davis said he was simply displaying his leadership.
"It was a matter of being a team captain. All I was doing was taking care of Indianapolis Colts jersey
my responsibilities and doing my job," Davis said.

Houllier made to wait for Villa bow

Cowboys jersey

LONDON (AFP) - Gerard Houllier was officially introduced as Aston Villa manager on Friday but the French coach does not expect to start working with the team for at least another week.
Although Houllier has agreed a three-year contract with Villa, his departure date from his football jerseys
role of technical director with the French Football Federation has yet to be confirmed.
That means the 63-year-old can't attend Villa's Premier League clash at Stoke on Monday - which had been expected to be his first game in charge of the club.
There is a possibility Houllier could return to Villa in time to pick the team for the home match with Bolton on September 18, but if not the former Liverpool and Lyon manager will be in control for the League Cup match against Blackburn on September 22.
For the moment Kevin MacDonald will remain in charge as caretaker boss.
"I take great pride in my appointment as manager of Indianapolis Colts jersey
Aston Villa. It is a great honour for me," Houllier said on Friday.
"Why am I here? One of the reasons is that I think Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner (club owners) have great enthusiasm, dynamism and honesty and they convinced me of their ambitions for the club.
"I had a good job with the FFF but I had a desire to return to English football - although it is not a case of unfinished business because I did well at Liverpool and won six trophies."
Houllier confirmed that MacDonald will not be part of Villa's first-team set-up but the former Liverpool midfielder, who had been keen on succeeding Martin O'Neill as full-time boss, will return to his role as reserve coach.
"I spoke to Kevin this morning and he prefers to go Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
back to his role as reserve-team manager," Houllier said.
"He has done a very good job and I trust him and I am sure our relationship will be good."

Serie A players announce strike plans

Cowboys jersey

ROME (AFP) - The Italian football players association (AIC) on Friday announced plans to strike on September 25 and 26 to protest against plans by league bosses to reduce their rights in transfer dealings.
AC Milan defender Massimo Oddo, a spokesman for the AIC, said the body nfl jerseys
had agreed with all Serie A teams that no player would turn up to play on those matchdays "unless a new contracts system is established".
A collective contract between the AIC and league bosses guaranteeing players' rights expired during the summer, however talks on renewing that deal failed, leading to the current impasse.
Clubs now want the power to insist that players who are in the final year of their contracts must accept a transfer to another, equally competitive club.
If the player disagrees, he must buy out the final year of Minnesota Vikings jersey
his contract at 50 percent of its worth.
Oddo added: "The strike is to protest against the failure to renew the last contract but is also against current aims to reduce the status of players to simple objects."
Italian league (Lega) president, Maurizio Beretta, later hit out at the AIC's decision, which he effectively qualified as blackmail.
"To come to the negotiating table with a loaded gun is not the best way to go about looking for an agreement," he told Rai television.
"To come out and threaten to strike is an extremely serious position to take. A bad example is being shown to other professional sports in this country, sports that are experiencing serious financial problems."
Beretta said the AIC "would do better to wait until Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
the meeting on Monday," which has been scheduled between players and league officials.

Steelers jersey

LONDON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Fabio Capello will quit as England manager after the 2012 European Championship, British media reported on Wednesday.
Italian Capello, 64, was quoted by Sky News as nfl jerseys
saying he would leave his job after the finals in two years time — providing England qualify.
Asked if he would be leaving after Euro 2012, he replied: “Absolutely. Yes. We have to qualify first of course but after that I will be too old. I want to enjoy my life as a pensioner.”

and signed a new contract before the World Cup in South Africa.
However, he was severely criticised following the team’s woeful World Cup campaign which ended with a second-round defeat by Germany.

The FA said in a statement recently that it Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

Capello confirms he will quit after Euro 2012

Steelers jersey

LONDON (AFP) - England manager Fabio Capello has ruled out the possibility that he will continue in the job after the Euro 2012 tournament, killing off speculation that recent good performances could prolong his stay.
The Italian's reputation took a battering after cheap nfl jerseys
England's dismal World Cup performance, but his stock has bounced back after impressive victories against Bulgaria and Switzerland in Euro qualifiers this month.
The renewed success of his team had raised questions about whether Capello would try and stay on after the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine—but he moved late Wednesday to put an end to such talk.
Asked whether he would be leaving after Euro 2012, the 64-year-old responded: "Absolutely. Yes."
"We have to qualify first of Dallas Cowboys jersey

Glazers selling Man United short?

Steelers jersey

Manchester United fans are not short of things to think about right now: the spectacular form of English Premier League rival Chelsea, more concerns over the on-and-off-field actions of Wayne Rooney and questions over whether the current squad is deep enough to mount a strong title challenge this season. Now it seems there is something else for supporters of the Red Devils to ponder – a bunch of struggling North American shopping malls. Confused? Let’s explain.
According to English investment analyst Andy Green, Man football jersey
United’s owner – the Glazer family – controls only two other significant businesses apart from the club. They are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, and First Allied Corporation, which controls 68 shopping malls around the United States.
Green told Yahoo! Sports that he has uncovered proof, listed on his website www.andersred.blogspot.com, that nine of First Allied’s shopping malls are financially “delinquent” and that 29 more do not have enough rental income to match the requisite mortgage payments.
“The worry for United supporters is about how the Glazers’ other finances could impact the club,” Green said in a telephone interview. “They borrowed heavily to buy United and those repayments have to be made. The issue is how will the money be raised? And will it affect the club?
“It may seem like a bizarre thing that American shopping centers can make a difference to an English football team. But it is something that United fans will want to keep a close eye on.”
The Glazers attracted criticism from United’s followers ever since taking over the club in 2005, primarily due to the level of borrowing – much of it supported by club assets – needed to make the purchase. Other loans, known as payment-in-kind (PIK) loans, were taken on by the family at high rates of interest.
Fans fear that the amount of transfer funds available to head coach Sir Alex Ferguson could be affected in the long term and that season ticket prices may need to be increased again.
Manchester United was not immediately available for comment.
Donovan fighting post-World Cup funk
The drama and emotion of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
the U.S. World Cup campaign seems to have taken its toll on Landon Donovan.
The Los Angeles Galaxy forward has struggled since returning to Major League Soccer. Consequently, the team has seen its lead atop the Western Conference shrink following three straight winless games.
Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena told me he believes Donovan’s exertions in South Africa have had an impact on his play, but he is confident the 28-year-old Donovan can soon return to peak form.
“Landon has had a falloff since the World Cup,” Arena said. “The physical demands are great and like all players he was put through a lot. Then there was the burden he carried off the field, like all the interviews and televisions appearances and business interests he was involved in when he got back.
“Those things take time to recover from, but I think we will see the old Landon back pretty quickly and I know he is motivated to try to win a championship.”
The Galaxy also hope David Beckham can return from a six-month injury layoff against the Columbus Crew on Saturday in a matchup of conference leaders.
Concerns over U.S. World Cup bid
U.S. Soccer chiefs have been busy this week ushering an inspection committee from governing body FIFA around the country to show off the nation’s suitability to host the World Cup for a second time.
However, while America’s stadiums and infrastructure provide the U.S. World Cup bid’s biggest selling point, the bid hierarchy will hope that FIFA executives pay scant attention to concerns raised by sports economist Dennis Coates, a professor at the University of Maryland and former president of the North American Association of Sports Economists.
In a report in the Baltimore Sun, Coates demanded that the U.S. bid show more financial transparency and questioned whether it could have a positive economic impact.
“Organizers for the 1994 U.S. World Cup claimed that the U.S. would see a positive impact of Minnesota Vikings jersey
$4 billion,” Coates said. “Yet post-Cup analysis by economists showed a startling return to reality: a $9 billion loss.”
He added: “Today’s U.S. Bid Committee, led by sports, entertainment and political luminaries, may be dragging Baltimore and the U.S. into another financial debacle at a time when we can least afford it.”
However, the U.S. bid team remains adamant that a World Cup staged in the States would offer economic benefits of around $5 billion, based on an independent study.

Revis back at practice with Jets, expected to play vs. Ravens

"Rusty!" some teammates shouted. Another yelled: "You've been chilling all camp, having a good time at the beach, huh?"
It was all in good fun, though, as Revis enjoyed the ribbing during a mostly sharp first practice Tuesday. He was back with the team after ending a 36-day contract holdout Monday by signing a four-year deal reportedly worth $46 million.
"It was a breakthrough, I think, just football jersey
being back on the field," Revis said, "and getting used to the guys out there, clownin' and joking."
There was plenty of that, especially when Revis missed that interception late in practice after the media viewing period was over.
"We looked at him and were like, when it hits those hands, we expect it to be in there," defensive end Vernon Gholston said. "Any little slip he made, any mistake, everyone was on him, but, really, we were just happy having him out."
That's because no one knew if this day would come, when their teammate -- a guy whom many consider the best defensive player in the NFL -- would rejoin them.
"It's great to see him back out there," safety Jim Leonhard said. "He loves the game of football and loves being with his teammates. You give him a hard time, he's going to give it right back."
Jets coach Rex Ryan said Revis is about 4 or 5 pounds over his playing weight of around 198 and is working himself into football shape. Revis is still expected to play in the Jets' Monday night season opener against the Baltimore Ravens at the New Meadowlands Stadium.
"He looked good," Ryan said before smiling and taking out a piece of paper from his back pocket. "Actually, I was supposed to say, from the defensive staff: 'He looked slow, we'll maybe rotate him in.' We may just spell him a little a bit, give Baltimore hope that he's not out there. No, everybody knows me, that he's going to play."
Revis caught a pass during warmups and received some mock cheers from the other defensive backs. He also did some individual work with defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman.
"Right now, I feel good," Revis said. "There's no problems with me. I don't feel any aching, I don't feel any pains, my hamstrings don't hurt."
Revis had a one-handed interception, but he was ruled out of Dallas Cowboys jersey
bounds, and he broke up several passes during practice, hardly looking as though he missed all of training camp.
"He was all over the place," Ryan said. "He was Darrelle. He's an amazing guy."
Revis participated in about half of the team drills, taking between 15 and 20 snaps.
"I think I'm fine right now," Revis said. "Nobody beat me deep today. I just think I need to get my legs up under me a little bit, and we're just focusing on that."
Revis will work out with the team trainer in the weight room Wednesday, a day off for the Jets from practice.
"He is in great shape," Ryan said, adding that the team wants to be somewhat cautious about rushing along Revis and causing an injury.
Despite his reputation as one of the league's shutdown cornerbacks, Revis won't be surprised if quarterback Joe Flacco and the Ravens' offense might look his way more than usual.
"I think they're still going to come at me," he said. "I think Monday night, the Ravens will because I haven't been in camp, I haven't been playing football for a while. I'm sure that's in their game plan."
Ryan, a former assistant in Baltimore for 10 years, encouraged the Ravens to target his cornerback.
"I can certainly see them doing that," Ryan said, trying to keep a straight face. "Guy missed all of training camp, so they should do that. Find him and go to him, and go to him often."
Really, Rex?
"They're smarter than that," Ryan said. "They're not coming after him. No way. No chance."
Notes: Revis wore a wig at times during his holdout to try to disguise himself. "That was a little joke I did," he said, laughing. "I actually was looking for some dreads, but I couldn't find those, but I got a curly Afro to wear around town." ... The Jets re-signed veteran FB Tony Richardson two days after cutting him. Richardson practiced Tuesday and will play in the season opener. ... The Jets also filled the last two spots on their practice squad, signing RB Chauncey Washington, a preseason Minnesota Vikings jersey
standout, and DT Jarron Gilbert, a former Chicago Bears third-round pick. ... S Brodney Pool's game status is uncertain because of a sprained ankle that kept him out of practice. ... Ryan is optimistic about a quick return for LB Calvin Pace, out for at least Game 1 with a broken right foot, but the coach wouldn't put a timeframe on it. ... The Jets took their team picture, and a staffer stood in for Santonio Holmes, who's suspended four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
