GE Healthcare moving work to Texas, Mexico

GE Healthcare is moving some of the manufacturing at its Tower Ave. facility in Milwaukee to sites in El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico.
The move will result in the layoff of football jersey about 29 employees, according to a letter the company sent to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The layoffs won't happen before Oct. 25 and are currently not scheduled to begin until about Jan. 1, the letter says.
"We anticipate the total number of involuntarily impacted employees will be less than 30, as some employees may elect to retire or depart the business voluntarily, or find positions in GE or (GE Healthcare)," the company said in a statement. More than 25% of New Orleans Saints jersey the manufacturing employees at the facility are eligible for retirement or early retirement, the statement says.
The affected facility, at 8200 W. Tower Ave. on Milwaukee's northwest side, has about 500 employees, the company said. It will continue to make monitoring systems and software for health care and diagnostic imaging after the selected operations are transferred.
GE Healthcare has about 6,000 employees in southeast Wisconsin, a spokeswoman said.
The company's statement addressed the question of New England Patriots jersey why the layoffs were happening despite signs the economy is rebounding.
"These decisions are not made lightly. While the economy appears to be turning around at the present time, it is important that the business take the necessary actions to remain competitive and position itself for long-term growth," the statement says.
